I first became acquainted with Lynn Berowsky when she was a Human Resource Administration Assistant in the Personnel Systems Department of Anglo American Corporation in 1995-1998. During this time, she was, inter alia, responsible for the setting up and administration of the staff appraisal by ranking (SABR) process. SABR was used by Anglo to assess, at high levels of management, the potential of managerial and technical talent for succession planning in the Anglo American and De Beers groups. As a senior training manager for the Diamond Services Division of Anglo American Corporation, I drew on Lynn's services to set up SABR sessions to assess people potential in the Mining, Metallurgical, Engineering, Financial, Information Technology and Human Resources disciplines within the De Beers group organisations in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. Lynn was very effective in this role as she was able to operate the technical/computer aspects relating to the SABR system, and to administer and process SABR system outputs. She was very efficient and professional in providing these services not only to De Beers, but to a wide variety of Anglo operating companies.

In 1998, the Personnel Systems, Graduate Recruitment and a wide range of technical support functions were rationalised within Anglo American Corporation as a result of the restructuring of Anglo American and De Beers as separate corporate entities, and the delisting of the latter company from the Johannesburg Securities Exchange. In this process, Lynn was transferred from Anglo to De Beers where she reported to me in the group human resources development function, appointed as PA/Human Resource Officer – Human Resource Development. She assumed responsibility for the coordinative functions relating to assessment of potential, middle and executive leadership development programmes and employment equity. Lynn was an asset to the function as she is efficient and intelligent, and is quickly capable of setting up administrative processes and routines to ensure effective administration and coordination of her areas of responsibility. She forged excellent relationships with key stakeholders and staff within the De Beers operations, and service providers such as business schools, the mining qualifications authority, and government agencies relating to employment equity.

Lynn's intelligence, her positive work ethic, her approach to work and her achievement of performance outputs enabled her to be promoted to a variety of human resources/development roles within the De Beers corporate human resources function.

I would not hesitate in recommending Lynn for any position requiring responsibility, accuracy and follow-up, and where she can interact with people to achieve company objectives.

At the time she was a support service for the human resources development (HRD) section of the human resources department at the company’s corporate office. My keen recollection is that Lynn made an immediate impression when she joined the HRD section, particularly due to her superior interpersonal skills and, as a result of her proactive willingness to meet the ‘clients’ needs.

I worked closely with Lynn over the period mid 2000 to late 2006. During this period Lynn worked both within my direct domain and within other human resources sections which provided services to the area I managed. Lynn never failed to impress on a relationship level, but critically her unwavering focus on acquiring new skills made her a hugely valuable team member. The latter approach has left Lynn with an impressively broad suite of skills.

My last work related interaction with Lynn was when I left my job as Head: Human Resources atDe Beers Consolidated Mines in late 2006.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Lynn for employment and state categorically that I would readily employ Lynn should the appropriate opportunity arise.

Finally, I invite the reader to contact me should further detail be required.
